  Following a recommendation & referral from another local garage concerning a long-standing ‘Engine Management Fault’ indicator light on my X-Type Jag, I took the car along to E.S. Alternators in Kirkintilloch. Explained my dilemma to Brian on the desk who then arranged to have the car brought in to their workshop a couple of days later. By the following morning after submitting the car, I had a phone call from Brian telling me that they had traced, tested & confirmed the fault (a faulty ‘Oxygen Sensor’ fitted on the exhaust manifold !....The Jag has four of those sensors apparently !)….. the price of the new replacement Lambda sensor, the total cost to complete the work, and seeking my authorisation to proceed with the repair ?, to which I readily agreed. Upon collection of the thankfully now repaired car, I was given the faulty sensor & connector by Brian, was shown the replacement unit fitted within the engine bay by the friendly and informative engineer who had actually carried out the repair. The replacement ‘oxygen sensor’ was purchased & charged to me at trade price (with no ‘mark-up’), the total work rate cost was very reasonable indeed (no complaints) & also included a free test & inspection of the car’s charging system & battery condition. As a footnote to this ‘Engine Management System saga’. Prior to my engaging E.S. Alternators, I had submitted the car to other garage workshops & ‘home’ vehicle electronic diagnostic ‘experts’ (AKA ~ ‘Print-out Jockeys’) in the forlorn hope that they may be able to fix the problem ?....Alas !!. In short, if you wish to collect a drawer-full of useless & contradictory ‘diagnostic print-outs’ (at £25-£50 per ‘test’ !)……do what I did earlier !. If on the other hand, if you wish to have your vehicles electrical problems actually fixed ?...... pop into E.S. Alternators in Kirkintilloch…..as I did eventually !. Best Regards, I. Macdonald
